October 2008
October saw the successful completion of a "fishy project" at Gt.Yarmouth Power Station. HFS teams entered the river water inlet tunnels and removed fish, eels, crabs and a substantial build up of solid muscles from the below ground infrastructure by use of high pressure water jetting and deep vacumentation to allow engineers in to replace new pumps. Russell Saville the project manager for HFS commented, "it was dark and deep in the tunnels but the cleaning crews managed to keep a good sense of humour despite the long arduous shifts". Toxic Gas build up from decomposing fish and other marine life meant the crews had to be very vigilant. The project took just over a week to complete but the smell of rotting fish will stay with us for a lot longer!
A successful presentation was given by Managing Partner - Alister Wait on "Confined Space Entry" to the Shell subcontractors away day in Norwich.
